Wallpaper tiles

I’ve hung up a lot of wallpaper over the years and it’s almost always easier to do with another person helping you which means that Tim has to volunteer and hang paper with me and because he is such a perfectionist it usually means he takes over the project and I assist. However with this paper from Sarah + Ruby Design I am actually able to do the job completely by myself. The wallpaper comes in tiles rather than long sheets which makes the job a lot more manageable for one person.

Here is the step by step below:

I set out a large piece of brown paper to lay the wallpaper squares on and to prevent glue from getting on everything.

You need to use a wallpaper smoothing tool to attach the paper to the wall and help remove air bubbles.

I used a universal wallpaper glue from Home Depot and a small foam roller to apply the glue. There are several techniques for this part but this is what I did. I covered the paper with a generous even layer of glue and let the paper sit for 2 minutes and then applied a second layer of glue before placing the paper on the wall and smoothing with the tool. This paper takes more glue than other papers and you need to make sure the edges are thoroughly covered.

I used the wallpaper smoothing tool and worked in diagonal strokes from the middle out to each corner and edge smoothing out the paper and removing air bubbles. Make sure to keep an eye on the paper, I noticed after 5 minutes or so more air bubbles sometimes appeared but they were easy to smooth out if caught in time before the glue was dry.

Office wall complete. I used the Calypso and Cadiz paper.

For the dining room I had custom color paper made, here are the samples I had to choose from.

It was the same process for this paper as the previous room.

Dining room complete, I used the Good Vibrations paper.
