One Room Challenge Week 1

So, it’s officially the first week of the One Room Challenge and I’m excited to share that the room we will be transforming is our kitchen!

I know a lot of people may be thinking that’s crazy and that our kitchen is perfectly fine and that’s true. It’s fine. We bought this 100+ year old home with the interior fully renovated and everything the guy selected for the kitchen was nice, but not me. It was lacking the personality that I love to bring into my home (and it was lacking open shelving which I LOVE hint hint) but there was no way we could justify ripping out a brand new kitchen, what a waste. So I did what I could to add some personality over the last year by using paint, removing the molding above the cabinets and switching out the cabinet pulls (which my dad made). You can see from the original photo below it has already changed quite a bit.

The kitchen looked like this when we bought the house

However, when I found out I was selected to be a featured designer for the ORC it seemed like the perfect opportunity to tackle this kitchen. I still don’t want to rip the whole thing apart because that would be a terrible waste of materials. So, instead, I’m going to transform this kitchen while still using everything that’s here. Some things will get rearranged, others will be repurposed, some new pieces will be built and I promise the transformation will be GREAT!

Thank you to the Linda for organizing this event and Better Homes & Gardens as the media partner.

There are 19 other amazing designers that will be transforming their homes (as well as 100s of guest participants) be sure to check them out!
